Student Selection Process

Crucial to the success of our organization is finding motivated young men and women who will take full advantage of the opportunity Educate! provides them to become leaders in finding solutions to the problems facing Africa.

All applicants must send in an application, which allows us to get to know the individual, their past, and their dreams for the future. In addition to the application, almost all our students are informally interviewed by members of Educate! student clubs in the States who have traveled to Uganda. We select our students based on their backgrounds, grades, and motivation to use their education to become socially responsible leaders and make a positive contribution to society.

Many of our students are orphans and have been through incredible hardships in the past. We believe that our students' past experiences increase their desire to make the most out of their opportunity as an Educate! student and in their lives afterwards. We look for students who stay motivated; keep up a positive attitude; and have a great personality, warm heart, and strong mind in spite of their past suffering.

We are in the process of revamping our selection process. The first step of the new process is to speak with schools and community leaders in order to find students who best fit our criteria. Those students will then be asked to fill out an application. Prior to selection, Educate! volunteers will spend a considerable amount of time with the strongest applicants in multiple contexts. We want to fully develop the new selection process prior to increasing the number of sponsored students so we can be sure that our support goes to the most deserving students.
