Amherst
College (Amherst, MA)
Started
in 2004, the Amherst College club has really jumpstarted
Educate! expansion. The club has raised over $4,000
through two benefit concerts, a dodgeball tournament,
and letter writing. The dodgeball tournament turned
out to be a tremendous success, with nearly 200 students
participating and nearly as many buying t-shirts.
Amherst
Educate! also sponsored guest speakers including Tony
Marx, the President of Amherst who addressed the importance
of education in developing countries, Alphonse Maindo,
the former mayor of one of the largest cities in the
Congo, and Javier Corrales, Professor of Political
Science at Amherst and Fulbright Scholar.
The
Amherst club is now helping with Educate!'s development,
including expanding the donor base, donor relations,
and grant writing. They are also working to help Jean
Pierre, another Educate! student, come to the United
States for college.
