Kantet
Justus Kerema
Kantet's
parents divorced when he was very young due to domestic
violence. His mother takes care of him now, and his
two older brothers were able to secure scholarships
to complete their secondary education.
Kantet was also up for a scholarship because he scored
the highest exam marks out of the students from the
40 local schools last year, but the scholarship was
unfairly taken by the #2 ranking student who cheated
the bookshop giving the scholarship. Kantet therefore
had to repeat standard 8 (8th grade) because his mother
was not able to afford his secondary school fees.
Because
his mother lives far from the school, Kantet used
to stay with his grandmother's, but unfortunately
his uncles beat him so now he stays at a teacher's
home near the school.
Kantet
is an extremely bright boy and wants to be a newscaster
or journalist when he gets older. His favorite subjects
are science, math, English and Swahili, and he enjoys
playing football (soccer).
