Marcel
Bahati elected to be Head Boy
Marcel
Bahati, a charismatic young man and Educate! Student,
was elected to be Head Boy of Sir Tito Winyi Secondary
School in Hoima, Uganda. Bahati had the help of several
friends who acted as his campaign managers, including
Daniel Muhwezi, also an Educate! Student.
Eric,
the founder of Educate!, visited Bahati the day of
his election. Bahati and Eric went from class to class
at Sir Tito informing students of Bahati's platform.
However, Bahati's win is truly a testament to his
own charisma and skill as a leader.
Several
challenges stood in his path to victory. First, he
is the only Congolese to ever become Head Boy at Sir
Tito, a Ugandan school where tradition greatly favors
nationals. Second, he has only been a student at Sir
Tito for less than a year. In spite of these challenges,
Bahati carried the elections with 77% of the vote!
As
head boy, he hopes to foster a sense of equality among
the students of all different nationalities at Sir
Tito and use his skill as a leader to motivate his
fellow students academically and athletically. As
a result of becoming the Head Boy, Bahati was given
the opportunity to attend a leadership workshop with
the Head Girl at Makerere University, the premier
university in Uganda.
