Our Students

Gaspari Innocent

Forced to flee the Congo because of human rights violations by the Nyamurenge rebels, 24 year-old Congolese refugee Gaspari Innocent is now a student at the Rubaga Medical Schools in Uganda. An Educate! student since 2005, Gaspari is currently working towards a diploma in Laboratory Technology, and hopes to one day become a doctor. To this end, he volunteers in the laboratories of nearby Health Centers.

Gaspari's father is 105 years old and in Gaspari's words: "I am last boy in my father's family. And I am only who reached this far with education, so all eyes are on me.”

Gaspari hopes to one day to offer these same educational opportunities to other students in the future. To him, Educate! demonstrates that “Friends are many here in Uganda and outside Uganda and Africa at large”.

Right now, Gaspari is able to help his community with service work, both on the Piggery Project, and growing beans and maize on the shamba. In his spare time enjoys playing football, visiting new places, and listening to Gospel.
